ARIJ Concludes the 2nd Edition of its 2025 Fact-Checking Diploma

20 November 2025
ARIJ’s AFCN has concluded the second edition of the ARIJ Fact-Checking Diploma 2025, a program designed to strengthen the capacities of journalists and fact-checkers to produce accurate, ethical, and evidence-based content, and to apply professional fact-checking standards that enhance transparency and accountability across the Arab media landscape.
The online training program was delivered via the ARIJ Academy and Zoom, running from April 7 to August 11, 2025. The diploma initially brought together 36 journalists and fact-checkers from 12 Arab countries, and successfully concluded with 25 participants from 9 Arab countries who fulfilled all program requirements by the end of November.
Women made up 64% of the diploma graduates, while men accounted for 36%. Participants represented a diverse range of Arab countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen.
The diploma included 28 intensive training sessions focusing on the development of core and advanced fact-checking skills. A total of 11 trainers and experts from 8 Arab countries led the sessions, which covered specialized topics such as information disorder, geolocation techniques, political, scientific, and health fact-checking, as well as verifying climate change and environmental claims.

Participants also developed advanced skills in data fact-checking and visualization, investigating disinformation campaigns and coordinated networks, in addition to using artificial intelligence in fact-checking, including its ethical challenges.

The diploma culminated in the production of in-depth fact-checking reports supervised by three editors, in addition to one investigative report produced under the supervision of ARIJ’s editorial team. These reports were published on ARIJ’s website between September and November 2025, with a particular focus this year on disinformation that media outlets fall into.
