AFCN Organises Psychosocial Clinics for Fact-checkers

As part of its efforts in supporting fact-checkers and providing protection for them, the Arab Fact-checkers Network(AFCN) led by ARIJ, organised during March 2023, 14 psychosocial clinics for 14 fact-checkers from the seven countries targeted under “Dalil’’ project. This project is funded by the European Union, implemented in cooperation with SIREN and JOSA .
The psychosocial clinics were provided by Dr. Ahmed Cherri, a specialised psychotherapist from Lebanon, who focuses on mental awareness and clinical management of several types of illnesses, such as panic attacks and depression, he also uses hypnotherapy to relieve psychological trauma symptoms.
The 14 participants are fact-checkers from seven Arab countries (Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, Tunisia and Morocco) and they belong to 10 fact-checking organisations, in addition to independent fact-checkers.
Participants praised Dr. cherrri’s advices as he shown professionalism helping them to understand the variable pressures they face and how to overcome them in the future, especially when it comes to work stress and the threats they might face as fact-checkers.
It is worth mentioning that the Dalil project for the “Arab Fact-Checkers Network” led by ARIJ, is funded by the European Union and in cooperation with SIREN and JOSA. The project aims to increase the production of accurate news and information in seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa (Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen).
