New project “DALIL” – Toward A More Effective and Innovative Arab Fact-Checkers Network
AFCN/ARIJ launches a new initiative that will boost the ability of fact-checkers in the MENA region to counter fake news and limit its impact on communities. The Disinformation Assessment, Listening and Investigation Lab (DALIL), funded by the European Union, will be implemented by Siren, in partnership with AFCN (by ARIJ) and the Jordan Open-Source Association (JOSA).
“DALIL” aims to increase the usage of locally driven, fact-checked online news in seven countries in the MENA region (Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia, Yemen). While several organizations/initiatives in these countries are individually working to tackle online disinformation, DALIL will leverage their membership of the grassroots Arab Fact-Checkers Network (AFCN) to enhance the influence and effectiveness of their work.
Through DALIL, AFCN members will be provided with cutting edge digital tools, training and advocacy support to ensure that their work reaches – and is used by – the public and policy makers alike.
Siren Analytics will draw upon its technical expertise to develop an artificial intelligence driven fact-checking platform. This digital platform will augment the human fact-checking process, while serving as a tool that connects AFCN members, enables them to collaborate and to share their work.
Over the project’s two-year lifespan, ARIJ/AFCN and JOSA will offer capacity building activities to AFCN members, supporting their production of industry-leading fact-checking products and policy analysis. To help AFCN members see-off threats to their work, AFCN and JOSA will additionally provide them with legal, psychosocial and digital support services.
