AFCN organises an advanced search techniques webinar

The Arab Fact-Checkers Network (AFCN) led by ARIJ, organised the third webinar of “Dalil” project under the title “Advanced Search Skills and Techniques for Fact-checkers”, with the support of the European Union, and in cooperation with the two organisations, “SIREN” in Lebanon and “JOSA” in Jordan.
The two-hour webinar, which was attended by more than 200 participants, was trained by Henk Van Ess, a highly experienced trainer in investigations and open source research. Henk is also an assessor and trainer with the International Fact-Checkers Network (IFCN), the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN), and other reputable organisations.
During the webinar, which was moderated by the AFCN manager, Saja Mortada, the trainer focused on explaining the various advanced search techniques and tools that help fact-checkers to have their investigations and research done with the highest quality and the fastest possible way.
The webinar included a lot of examples and case studies, and the interaction was very remarkable in terms of the participants response with the trainer’s questions and examples.
Abdelaziz Soufi, a Moroccan Journalist, confirms that he learned from the webinar “how to use tools and advanced search techniques to get information as quickly as possible and to check my journalistic information.”
For her part, Aya Ezz Eddin, a journalist from Egypt, considers that the webinar taught her “how to search in a professional and safe way on the Internet, and this makes the process of searching for sources and information easy and flexible.”
It is worth mentioning that the Dalil project for the Arab Fact-Checkers Network led by ARIJ, is supported by the European Union and in cooperation with SIREN and JOSA. The project aims to increase the production of accurate news and information in seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa (Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen).
