AFCN organises an “Advanced Physical Safety workshop for fact-checkers”

Within the framework of the ARIJ23 Forum, entitled “Cross-Border Collaboration in a Fragmented World“, from 1st to 3rd of December 2023, the ARIJ’s AFCN organised an “Advanced Physical Safety workshop for fact-checkers” on November 30, led by the specialist trainer and the journalist Abdullah Maksour, under Dalil project.
Four managers from 4 Arab fact-checking platforms/organisations participated in the workshop: Chayyek Platform from Lebanon – Jordan, Tahaqqaq – Palestine, Sidq – Yemen and Tunifact from Tunisia.
During the workshop, the trainer provided the trainees with the most important advice on occupational safety procedures, risk assessment, how to develop a culture of safety within the team, good team management to stay safe and the tools required.
The trainer elaborated the importance of preparing a clear plan for the organisations through which to assess potential risks during work, think structured when moving in conflict areas and how to communicate securely and prepare crisis units.
This workshop is within the Dalil project for the “Arab Fact-Checkers Network” led by ARIJ, and supported by the European Union and in cooperation with SIREN and JOSA. The project aims to increase the production of accurate news and information in seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa (Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen).
