AFCN organised in Amman its 4th Regional Meeting in 2023

The Arab Fact-Checkers Network (AFCN) led by ARIJ, held on the 2nd of December its fourth and final regional meeting in 2023, in-person in Amman, within the framework of the ARIJ23 annual forum, entitled “Cross-Border Collaboration in a Fragmented World“, from 1 to 3rd of December 2023 with presence of more than 20 fact-checking organisations/initiatives from 11 Arab countries.
For 2-hours, Saja Mortada, AFCN manager moderated the meeting, which Rawan Damen, ARIJ Director General, gave an introduction that ensures the importance of cooperation between the AFCN and the international communities in the time of crises.
The AFCN manager reviewed during the meeting, the most important stages of the Network with its community in 2023 and how its team worked to its fullest extent with the fact-checkers community at the Arab and international levels to address information disorder and its effects.
Mortada discussed with the AFCN community, the network’s theory of change and the most important strategic objectives for 2024-2025, which include; capacity building, safety, innovation, organisational support for fact-checking organisations to improve the quality of their work, international networking and cooperation with media organisations and media faculties to face the information disorder.
Later, the participants were divided into working groups to discuss ways and strategies to face any future mis/disinformation crisis, and they came up with important recommendations that AFCN will work on in 2024.
It’s worth mentioning that this is the 2nd in-person regional meeting for AFCN as part of ARIJ16 annual forum and the last in 2023. The network held its first in-person meeting during the ARIJ15 forum in 2022 and it was the first regional gathering for the Arab fact-checkers in the region.
